Michael Simms was born and raised in small town West Virginia, and has been a part of the legal community in Morgantown for over seventeen years. During that time, he has helped countless people, including fathers, mothers, Veterans and students through the court system. He knows what it's like to guide people through the most difficult time in their lives, putting the pieces back together, and enabling them to move forward.
Michael is the only candidate who plans to start an additional Treatment Court - either a Veterans Court, giving justice-involved Veterans support, and a clear path out of the criminal justice system, or a Family Treatment Court, giving families affected by substance use a chance to start living healthy, productive lives.
Michael believes in the value of marriage, and draws his greatest strength from his family. Like all of us, he wants our community to be a safe and welcoming place to raise his children.
Michael cares deeply about public service - he is the Chairperson of Monongalia County's Public Defender Corporation, a recipient of the John A. "Jack" Rogers Award for Outstanding Leadership in Public Service, a member of the Cheat Lake Rotary, a former Board Member of Senior Monongalians, Inc., a former Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor, and the pro-bono attorney for ASPIRE Services, Inc., a Veteran-focused Morgantown nonprofit.
